I Hate Cancer | Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center

My name is Riccay Elizondo, and I hate cancer.

Cancer took my cousin, who was basically my brother, at 17 years old. Several family members have battled cancer; some have won, others have lost. Growing up, I wanted to help people in any way possible, but it wasn’t until my senior year of college that I knew exactly how — scientific research. Immunology is a fascinating fiRiccay Elizondo eld with promising potential to be the cure we need. Exploring cancer in the field of immunology is where I plan to focus for the foreseeable future. I’m a fourth-year PhD candidate in the lab of Robert Bright, PhD, professor of immunology in the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, and I think there’s a way to use the immune system to fight against cancer. I’m confident I will find it!
