What is it you enjoy about Texas Tech Orthopaedics?
I grew up in a small Midwestern town with parents who had blue-collar jobs. I’ve enjoyed
my previous “roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty” jobs which is what got
me into orthopedics. The residents in this program are technically good surgeons who
are great problem solvers when they leave Lubbock. I’m proud to have trained here.

What is it you enjoy about Texas Tech Orthopaedics?
First and foremost, the group of residents here is extremely strong and we are a very
close knit and social group. We have a lot of fun and laughs at work spend a ton of
time together outside of work and have several annual bigger social events and I couldn’t
pick a better group to work with. We also get a very high case load with actual autonomy
in the OR without feeling like we lack supervision. We combine this with a serious
focus on education which has led to consistently high percentile case volume and high
percentile OITE scores, which is a rare combination. I would pick this program again
in a heartbeat.

Where are you from/hometown: Lake Charles, LA
What is it you enjoy about Texas Tech Orthopaedics?
Two main things: Surgical exposure/autonomy and resident comradery. We get early operative
experience with difficult traumatic and elective cases, and attendings are good at
giving you graduated autonomy as a surgeon. And while residency will be tough anywhere
you go, having a group of residents that are as supportive and friendly as ours makes
it much more enjoyable and bearable.

What is it you enjoy about Texas Tech Orthopaedics?
I love the comradery of the residents here. My co-residents are truly some of my closest

What is it you enjoy about Texas Tech Orthopaedics?
Of all of the places I went I felt that I got along with the residents here better
than other places. Everyone seemed genuine, down to earth, and relatable. I also was
told from multiple other places that the residents coming out of here were operatively
some of the best. I wanted to gain the operative confidence while also working with
people who I enjoy being around.

What is it you enjoy about Texas Tech Orthopaedics?
During my visiting rotation I felt comfortable with the residents and faculty. The
program is like a large family and everyone looks out for each other. The faculty
take the time in the OR to make sure the residents are ready to operate independently.
All other staff members are also very helpful and made me feel comfortable and like
I was at home during my rotation.
