Amarillo Alzheimer's Academy

Enabling caregivers with information and services to provide fulfilling and dignified lives for victims of Alzheimer's Disease.

Founded in 2003, the Amarillo Alzheimer's Academy is a collaborative effort of Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Schools of Medicine and Pharmacy, the Alzheimer's Association STAR Chapter, and the Area Agency on Aging of the Panhandle.

Area Agency on Aging of the Panhandle

Alzheimer's Caregiver Support Groups

Alzheimer's Support Group  at The Area Agency on Aging of the Panhandle meets every first Monday from 12:00 noon-1:00 p.m. except holidays. For more information, contact Caregiver Specialist at 806-331-2227.

Care Connection, a strategic alliance between the Alzheimer's Foundation of America and Ask Dr. Jamie, is a free telephone support service designed for caregivers of individuals with Alzheimer's disease and related illnesses.  The sessions are live every Thursday night at 8 p.m. Central Standard Time.  Call toll-free: 1-877-232-2992, Guest ID#: 271004#

Alzheimer's Support Group at the Moore Living Center meets the 2nd Thursday of the month, except holidays from 6:00-7:00 p.m.  For more information, please contact Sharon Neal at 806-337-5074 or Barbara Simms at 806-337-4164.

Amarillo-Alzheimer's Support Group at Seville Estates meets the 2nd Thursday of the month except holidays at 6:00 p.m.  For more information, contact Tiffany Brandes at 806-351-2105.

Amarillo-Alzheimer's Support Group at The Cottages at Quail Creek meets the 2nd Monday of the month at 10:00 a.m.  You may bring your loved one.  Games will be provided, such as Bingo while you are in the Caregiver session.  Light refreshments for the caregivers are generally provided.  For more information, contact The Cottages at Quail Creek at 806-351-2271.

Amarillo-Tender Hearts Alzheimer's Support Group at The Craig, 5500 W. 9th Avenue, Amarillo, TX  79106, meets every month, but the day and time will vary.  Lunch or Dinner is provided at the meeting.  For more information, contact Mindy Cagle at The Craig at 806-468-1140.

Canyon-Alzheimer's Support Group at the First Baptist Church Ministry Center, 1717 4th Avenue, Canyon, TX, meets the 1st Friday of the month at 12:00 noon.  A light lunch is provided.  For more information, contact The Cottages at Quail Creek at 806-351-2271. 

Clarendon-Alzheimer's Support Group at the Donley County Senior Citizen's Center meets the 3rd Tuesday of the month except holidays at 4:00 p.m.  For more information, contact Chandra Christopher at Roadrunner Home Care, 806-259-2597.

Dumas-Alzheimer's Support Group at Accolade Home Care meets the 3rd Tuesday of the month, except holidays at 6:30 p.m.  For more information, contact Accolade at 806-934-2000.

Pampa-Alzheimer's Support Group at the Pampa Nursing Center meets the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 6:00 p.m.  For more information, contact the Pampa Nursing Center at 806-669-2551.

Stratford-Alzheimer's Support Group at Coldwater Manor meets the 3rd Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m.  For more information, contact Karl or Gail at Coldwater Manor at 806-259-2597.


Ask a Geriatric Care Team Member

The Alzheimer's Academy has launched an Ask-A-Professional service to on its web page.  The service will allow visitors to submit their questions about Alzheimer's disease directly to the Geriatric Division.  Frequently Asked Questions or FAQ will be archived on the webpage for future patrons to review.  To submit questions to our team please click here.
