SABR Intern Housing Accomodations

During the SABR program, interns are responsible for their own housing and transportation costs.  A tip for all:  BE PREPARED TO FINANCE ONE MONTH OF LIVING COSTS.  The first payment does not come until July 1st.

If you are accepted, plan to bring an umbrella or other rain gear, a hat, and clothes for hot weather.  On stormy nights, you may wish to have a light jacket. (Don't forget close-toed shoes and jeans for lab attire!)

Housing in Lubbock is relatively cheap in comparison to the national averages. Students have had little trouble finding housing for the 10 week program in the past.

The most popular choice amongst past interns has been to sublet a "bed space" in a 4, 3, or 2 bedroom apartment in Raiders Pass.  Raiders Pass is an apartment complex that comes fully furnished, and it is directly across the street from the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.  Their rates are:  $459/month for a 4 bedroom, $484/month for a 3 bedroom, and $559/month for a 2 bedroom.  This includes all bills, cable, and Internet.  Feel free to visit for more information.  (You will need your own bedding, i.e., bed sheets, pillow, and blanket if you choose this option)

There is a local bus line in town called City Bus.  Interns are encouraged to utilize this city service to procure groceries, go shopping on weekends, and other tasks that can circumvent the lack of a car.  The bus routes and pricing information can be found @ (Wal-Mart is about 5 minutes from Raiders Pass, and the Bus can take interns there for grocery needs)

 Recreational Center:

Texas Tech University main campus offers many exciting recreational sports and events in their REC center.  Please visit the REC center's web site for information on summer pricing and available amenities.  Rock climbing wall, indoor and outdoor track, 2 lap pools, a leisure pool, and so much more!

Interns who choose to pay for a Rec. membership can use their membership ID for a discount on the local City Bus, but this is completely optional.

If an intern wishes to rent a car, Lubbock does have an Enterprise among other renters.
