Neonatal Care, Special Technology

The Division of Neonatal Medicine, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center at the Permian Basin serves a region which is approximately 23,000 square miles in area. Though large in area, this region is sparsely populated, containing about 300,000 people. The NICU admits approximately 300 babies annually.

High Frequency Ventilation

The Division of Neonatal Medicine, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center at the Permian Basin High Frequency Ventilation program began in September 1987 utilizing the first generation of Infrasonics Infant Star high frequency oscillators. In these more than 20 years over 1000 babies have been treated with high frequency ventilation, with not only Infant Star ventilators, but also Bunnell Life Pulse Jet ventilators and Sensormedics 3100A oscillators.
