HSC OP: 77.05, Suspension and Retention

PURPOSE: The purpose of the Health Sciences Center Operating Policy and Procedure (HSC OP) is to ensure understanding and a standardized approach regarding student suspension and retention. This HSC OP applies to all TTUHSC campus locations.

REVIEW: This HSC OP will be reviewed in May every four years (E4Y) by the Asst./Assoc. Dean of Admissions and the Dean of each school, with recommendations for revision forwarded to the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs.

POLICY/PROCEDURE:

1. General Policy. Grading standards, symbols, grade point scales, GPA determinations, and other considerations regarding the quality of work of students are the prerogative of the faculty of the programs, as are issues of promotion and advancement. Each student is responsible for being aware of his or her academic status at all times.

2. Students are required to meet specific departmental/program performance standards. Individual departments or programs within each school may apply academic standards for probation and suspension higher than those established in each school in order to comply with specific licensure requirements.

3. Students may also be suspended for unprofessional conduct as outlined in the TTUHSC Institutional Student Handbook / Code of Professional and Academic Conduct.
