HSC OP: 77.07, Credit by Examination

PURPOSE: The purpose of the Health Sciences Center Operating Policy and Procedure (HSC OP) is to establish credit by examination requirements for Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC). This HSC OP applies to all TTUHSC campus locations.

REVIEW: This HSC OP will be reviewed in May every four years (E4Y) by the Asst./Assoc. Dean of Admissions and Dean for each school, with recommendations for revisions forwarded to the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs.

POLICY/PROCEDURE:

1. General Policy. It is the policy of TTUHSC to recognize academic achievement of undergraduate students gained by independent study as well as actual performance in organized classes. Undergraduate students will be given the opportunity to receive credit by special examination in all courses where proficiency may be practicably determined by examination.

2. Specific credit by examination policies may be found in each of the school’s catalogs and/or handbooks.

3. Pass or fail grades earned on examinations for these courses will not be considered in determining grade-point averages.

4. Schools have the authority to elect not to accept credit by examination, where it is determined that such academic achievement may hinder the success of students on national licensure exams/certifications.
