Funding for International Programs
Funding for International Programs for TTUHSC Students
To qualify for funding, students must receive academic credit or academic recognition for the international program, and the international program must be approved by the student’s school and the Office of Global Health.
General Information About Funding
Application Due Dates, Disbursement Dates, & Travel Dates
When possible, the Office of Global Health makes every effort to disburse awards prior to departure on an international program. However, we cannot guarantee that awards are received prior to departure. There are occasions when funds are delayed or application due dates fall during travel dates or too close to travel dates to allow for disbursement prior to travel abroad. In those instances, students are welcome to apply for funding and awards will be disbursed as soon as possible.
Disbursement Dates & Payment Due Dates
Applicants must meet all payment due dates and deadlines regardless of date of disbursement of funds.
Approximate Award Amounts
The Office of Global Health is unable to determine approximate award amounts as the amount awarded to applicants depends on a number of factors including number of applications received each funding cycle, length of program abroad, and location of program abroad.
International Education Fee Award (IEFA)
The international education fee is a $4 institutional fee collected each semester. Monies in the fund are used to assist students who participate in international student exchange or study programs that are part of their degree program.
Disbursements of IEFA are established each academic year for programs occurring in the fall, spring, and the summer. The application for each semester will be distributed on or before the release date through the daily TTUHSC Announce email. It will also be available on the TTUHSC Announcement page for students. Eligibility
To be eligible to receive an award students must:
- Submit an application with supporting documentation to the Office of Global Health by the established deadline. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
- Be enrolled full time per school/program requirements and be in good academic standing. International students must be enrolled in the required number of credit hours to maintain their immigration status. All students must be able to provide proof of enrollment.
Safety and Security Abroad

The Texas Tech University System has implemented a comprehensive travel risk management program partnered with On Call International. The program provides emergency and non-emergency services and benefits to all faculty, staff, and students abroad on TTUHSC related travel or assignment.
Key features of the program through On Call International:
- Medical, travel, and security assistance including insured evacuation and repatriation services
- Coordination of medical care
- Coordination and payment of travel arrangements for you or a person you designate for certain emergency circumstances
Before you travel abroad contact the Office of Global Health for more information about On Call's services, the steps necessary to obtain coverage, and receiving a copy of the insurance card.
While traveling abroad contact On Call International via collect call, email, or text from anywhere in the world 24 hours day to request assistance. If you need medical care, encounter a travel problem, suffer a medical emergency, or are impacted by security crisis anywhere in the world, we strongly encourage you to take advantage of services available through On Call.
