Statement of Purpose

AREAS OF EXPERTISE

The Human Resources Division is comprised of campus HR teams and specialized departments that work collaboratively across functional areas to advance and deliver HR programs, services and support.

Benefits & Wellness

In addition to traditional offerings such as paid time off and retirement plans, HR helps coordinate a variety of benefits to support the well-being of our employees and their families. These include a mother-friendly workplace, tuition waivers/assistance for our employees and their dependents, public student loan forgiveness eligibility, and a variety of wellness initiatives designed to promote work-life balance and overall health. Our team also administers leave programs, including the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), sick leave pool, family leave pool, emergency leave, and other related procedures.

Compensation & Classification

Human Resources manages the university’s pay plan to promote fairness and transparency in employee compensation while ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, including the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Our team reviews new positions and classification changes to ensure that job responsibilities are accurately reflected and that compensation remains both internally equitable and externally competitive. Through comprehensive market analyses, our team is able to provide data-driven recommendations for compensation adjustments and classification changes that align with evolving job responsibilities.

HR Technology and People Metrics

The HR Systems and Strategic Operations (HR SSO) team plays a pivotal role in leveraging technology and data to support institutional decision-making and strategic planning. HR administers various Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) to manage employee data and track key workforce metrics, ensuring that institutional information is accurate, secure, and actionable. HR provides valuable insights into areas such as employee engagement, turnover, and workforce metrics, helping guide the university’s efforts to build a strong, sustainable workforce supported by data-driven decisions.

Recruitment & Retention

HR’s recruitment and retention efforts are designed to attract and retain top talent while ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and institutional policies. Our campus HR teams are integral to the day-to-day support of hiring activities, working closely with departments across the university to provide individualized guidance and support. Additionally, the Recruitment & Retention team administers strategic initiatives that focus on talent acquisition and retention. This includes utilizing paid advertising, sourcing candidates through job boards, and contracting with search firms to expand our reach. HR also oversees the Applicant Tracking System (ATS), employment eligibility verifications, background checks, and other systems to ensure that best practices are followed at every step of the hiring process.

Workforce Planning and Organizational Effectiveness

Through strategic planning and data-informed analysis, our team supports organizational design, talent management, and workforce planning initiatives that strengthen operational effectiveness and promote a culture of excellence. We assist departments in optimizing job and position structures, conducting market analyses, and implementing compensation and classification changes that reflect evolving institutional needs. By implementing integrated workforce strategies, HR helps ensure that the right people are in the right roles and are empowered to succeed in a dynamic and collaborative environment.

Workforce Relations and Culture

The Division of Human Resources is committed to enhancing the work environment through a variety of support systems and initiatives. Our team is dedicated to conflict resolution and maintaining positive employee relations, offering resources for extended leave and accommodations as needed. We facilitate effective onboarding and offboarding processes to ensure a smooth transition for all employees. We also implement employee recognition programs to celebrate achievements and foster a culture of appreciation. Through strategic internal communications, we keep our staff informed and engaged, ensuring that every team member feels valued and supported throughout their journey at the university.

Workforce Training and Development

From HR-specific training for people leaders to on-demand webinars, our division coordinates a range of learning opportunities for our team members to acquire new skills and knowledge relevant to their roles. By offering practical training courses related to the most common workforce relations questions, HR seeks to empower team members, strengthen institutional effectiveness, and cultivate a supportive and engaging work environment.

Office of the CHRO

The Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) provides leadership and oversight for all HR functions, ensuring that daily operations and long-term strategies are fully integrated to support institutional success.

In addition to guiding the optimization of HR practices and processes, the CHRO collaborates with university cabinets, committees, and leadership on workforce planning, organizational effectiveness, and employee engagement to align workforce strategy with our institution’s mission, values, and long-term goals. The CHRO also serves to oversee strategic initiatives that strengthen the university’s capacity to attract, develop, and retain exceptional team members.
