TTUHSC Interprofessional Education Microcredential Program
The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) Microcredential Program provides the TTUHSC Interprofessional Education students with knowledge and skills to develop the Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) Core Competencies for Collaborative Practice - interprofessional values and ethics, roles and responsibilities of healthcare providers, interprofessional communication, and teamwork. The TTUHSC Interprofessional Education Microcredential Program includes five badges: IPE Foundation Badge, Patient Safety Badge, Communication and Teamwork Badge, Leadership Badge, and IPE Core Competency Badge. Completion of these badgers provide students with a certified credential for Interprofessional Education.
About
The TTUHSC Interprofessional Education Microcredential Program provides students with interprofessional education knowledge and skills of specific competencies. The goal of implementing an Interprofessional Education microcredential program is to provide additional learning opportunities for faculty, staff, and students along with increasing recruitment and retention of TTUHSC students.
Requirements
The TTUHSC Interprofessional Education Microcredential Program educates students in the learning environments where the model is interprofessional collaborative care. To earn the TTUHSC Interprofessional Education Microcredential, students are required to successfully complete the specified activities for each badge. These badges include a variety of learning activities within the current TTUHSC Interprofessional Education curriculum. Upon completion of the requirements, students submit an application to receive each digital credential badge.
Digital Credential Badges

Foundation Badge
In order to obtain this badge, students will learn the foundational knowledge of interprofessional
education, the four IPEC Core Competencies, and an understanding for future healthcare
professionals through collaborative learning of interprofessional methods in student
education. Health care professionals, who learn together, work better together. The
goal for IPE is to prepare all health professional students for deliberately and collaboratively
working together to reach a common goal of well-coordinated, high quality patient-centered
care. There are three activities required to earn this badge. Once completed, students
submit an application to receive the digital credential badge.

Patient Safety Badge
In order to obtain this badge, students will learn to, with, and from one another.
Students will develop patient safety by participating in the Do No Harm activity.
Students identify safety hazards in health care and provide patient-centered solutions
to reduce medical errors. Student will discuss medical error in a blame-free way as
an interprofessional team. Students will fulfill the IPEC Core Competencies of Interprofessional
Communication, Roles and Responsibilities, Teams and Teamwork, and Values/Ethics for
Interprofessional Practice. There is one activity required to earn this badge in addition
to completing a reflection and assessment. Once completed, students submit an application
to receive the digital credential badge.

Communication and Teamwork Badge
In order to obtain this badge, students will foster improvement in interprofessional
communication and teamwork skills. Students will participate in the Disaster Day –
Live Simulation or Shatter the Stigma – Virtual Simulation. While participating in
Disaster Day students will practice the basics of mass casualty triage along with
applying assessment, reasoning, and decision-making skills during an emergency. While
participating in Shatter the Stigma, students will summarize recent trends in drug
use and addiction as related to patient care needs. There is one activity required
to earn this badge in addition to completing a reflection and assessment. Once completed,
students submit an application to receive the digital credential badge.

Leadership Badge
In order to obtain this badge, students will lead a small interprofessional team of
peers. Students will encourage and facilitate an open discussion around the needs
and outcomes of the activities. Students will foster participation between team members
and encourage full participation and discussion. Students will provide a safe and
inclusive space for team members while promoting positive team culture and embracing
differences. Students will fulfill the IPEC Core Competencies of Interprofessional
Communication, Roles and Responsibilities, Teams and Teamwork, and Values/Ethics for
Interprofessional Practice. There are two activities required to earn this badge in
addition to completing a reflection and assessment. Once completed, students submit
an application to receive the digital credential badge.

Pathway to Distinction

IPE Core Competencies Badge
In order to receive this badge, students will complete the Foundation and Communication & Teamwork badges. Students will fulfill the IPE Core Competencies of Interprofessional Communication, Roles and Responsibilities, Teams and Teamwork, and Values/Ethics for Interprofessional Practice. This badge exemplifies collaborative learning of interprofessional methods in student education to advance the overall health and well-being of the community and beyond.



Patient Safety Champion
In order to receive this badge, students will complete the Foundation, Patient Safety and Leadership badges. Students will fulfill the IPE Core Competencies of Interprofessional Communication, Roles and Responsibilities, Teams and Teamwork, and Values/Ethics for Interprofessional Practice. Students will exemplify safety awareness, identify medical errors, and demonstrate error disclosure. This badge exemplifies collaborative learning of interprofessional methods in student education to advance the overall health and well-being of the community and beyond.




IPE Excellence
In order to receive this badge, students will complete the Foundation, Patient Safety, Communication & Teamwork, and Leadership badges. Students will exemplify the IPE Core Competencies of Interprofessional Communication, Roles and Responsibilities, Teams and Teamwork, and Values/Ethics for Interprofessional Practice. Successful completion of the pathway signifies the achievement of competence in interprofessional methods of student collaboration and education.
