Member of the Quarter - May 2015
Karen Lambo
May 2015
Congratulations to Karen Lambo MSN, RN for being selected as May's Member of the Month! Karen received her A.D.N from San Juan College in 1996, her BSN from Lubbock Christian University in 2006, and her MSN from Lubbock Christian University in 2013. She is the Executive Director for the Center of Excellence at Covenant Health. Prior to this position, she was the Nurse Leader for the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at Covenant Medical Center. Karen has received numerous awards including the Healing Touch Award, Forces of Magnetism Award for Management Style, and Employee of the Month several times, among others.
Typically, I reformat to simplify the verbiage of the nominee’s information, however, I think Karen’s statement on what she enjoys about being a nurse should be verbatim.
I could write forever about what I love about nursing, but the one attribute that stands out the most is that nursing gives me the opportunity to impact someone’s life every day. It doesn’t matter what field of nursing you are in or how long you have been a nurse, what you say and how you react has direct impact on someone. I am thankful that God has given me the opportunity to minister to patients and other nurses.
Karen’s research interests, publications, and presentations involve many aspects of nursing care including: care of the neurosurgical patient, X-Ray interpretation, chest tube monitoring, service excellence training, dysrhythmias, and care of a post-op open heart. She prepared and was awarded the AACN Beacon Award for Nursing Excellence, she helped design the new SICU, and is also a Six-Sigma—Green Belt. Her plan is to go wherever God leads her, and plans to grow and learn in nursing as long as she can. She enjoys spending time with family! She also reads, and does anything sewing/knitting related. She is addicted to Game of Thrones (winter is coming!) and her favorite movie is Wizard of Oz.
Thank you for your contribution to the discipline of nursing!
