Getting on Your Patient's Nerves: Using Modern Neuroscience to Improve Musculoskeletal Care
The science of orthopedic care is evolving rapidly. We now have a broad spectrum of evidence that the nervous system is the primary driver of pain, dysfunction, and disability. “Getting on Your Patient’s Nerves” is a 2-day (12.5 hour) course that provides a template for understanding clinical pain states including their assessment and management. Day 1 topics will include the problem of pain in US society, the emergence of the pain “Neuromatrix”, and how to identify clinical pain states using broadly accepted terminology.

The second day will examine how our three most common interventions (patient education, manual care, and exercise) directly influence the nervous system. Suggestions for adapting treatments based on clinical pain states will be made in the context of the latest evidence on the topics.
