Veteran Commencement Stole
Veteran and military graduates will receive a camo stole at their respective graduation ceremony. Military service is verified through a DD-214, current LES, or statement of service letter from a Commanding Office for active service members. To reserve your stole send an email to Veteran&MilitaryServices@ttuhsc.edu.

Enhancing Military-Affiliated Student Support and Veteran Awareness at TTUHSC

Green Zone Training (GZT) is designed to increase awareness, understanding, and provide resources to assist military-affiliated students, but will also prove informative for individuals working in patient care. In an effort to increase overall veteran and military awareness, as of March 2020, GZT is available via ACME to all TTUHSC faculty, staff, and students. Please review the GZT Instructions below to access and complete the modules, or reach out to Veteran&MilitaryServices@ttuhsc.edu and we can assign the training. Those who complete all four Green Zone Training modules will receive a decal for public display, indicating their support. Thank you!

Instructions

To access Green Zone Training, please take the following steps:

1. Log in to WebRaider
2. Under the Employee tab, see Training Resources tab on the far right of the page
3. Select the link: "To view your completed training click here." On the top of the page you will see ACME (far left) and Main Menu (far right)
4. Select Main Menu and then Main Menu a second time
5. Under the blue heading Participant - select Course Listing
6. In the search Filter box - type GZT
7. Click on the Search tab
8. Select Module 1 to begin

Student veterans can now visit the ID Card Office at HSC 1B134 on the Lubbock campus, Monday-Friday 2pm-5pm. You can also reach out the ID card office via email at raidercard@ttu.edu. A new PD C-Cure requisition form is required, which are available at each School’s Student Affairs office.

Distance Ed students go to www.depts.ttu.edu/unvid/

• American Red Cross - The American Red Cross offers confidential services to all veterans and their families by connecting them with local, state and national resources through our network of chapters in communities across the United States and offices on military installations worldwide.
• American Veterans (AMVETS) - AMVETS is a national organization whose members provide a range of services and support to veterans, communities and other nonprofit organizations. 
• Joint Services Transcript - an official transcript tool for documenting the recommended college credits for professional military education, training courses, and occupational experiences of service members. 
• National Archives - Request military records and learn about other services for yourself or a family member.
• Department of Veterans Affairs - Apply for and manage benefits, and manage health.
• VA YouTube Channel - informative mix of specialized programming that honors, entertains, and informs Veterans of the benefits and services that they have earned.
• Student Veterans of America (SVA) - 501(c)(3) coalition of student-veteran groups on college campuses across the globe.
• Center for Women Veterans (CWV) - Resources for women veterans.
• The American Legion - Wartime veterans service organization aimed at advocating patriotism across the U.S.

• Veterans Suicide Prevention Channel - The creation of this channel is an attempt to channel is an attempt to stop the rate of 22 veterans dying from suicide every day in America. 
• College Scorecard - U.S. Dept. of Education (ED) planning tool and resource to assist prospective students and their families.
• College Navigator - National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) consumer tool providing school information to include tuition and fees, retention and graduation rates, financial aid, student loan default rates and cost calculator.
• Financial Aid Shopping Sheet - Model aid award letter designed to simplify the information that prospective students receive about costs and financial aid. 
• Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA) - Paralyzed Veterans of America, a congressionally chartered veterans service organization founded in 1946, has developed a unique expertise on a wide variety of issues involving the special needs of our members – veterans of the armed forces who have experienced spinal cord injury or dysfunction.
• VA LGBT Patient Care Services - There is an LGBT Veteran Care Coordinator at every facility to help you get the care you need.
• VA Minority Veterans Program - The main goal for Minority Veterans Program Coordinators is to increase the awareness of issues pertaining to minority Veterans. This includes developing long-term strategies to encourage eligible minority Veterans to participate in VA benefit programs.
• Paying for College - Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) tool for prospective students to receive detailed financial information for up to three schools and to enter actual financial information. 

The TTUHSC Veteran Advisory Committee is made up of University faculty, staff, and students committed to the success of student veterans. Members serve as a resource on behalf of their respective departments and provide inputs for programs and services. Veteran Advisory Committee members advocate for veterans on campus and assist in educating the HSC community about veteran issues.

Prepare for Success: TTUHSC Heroes to Healthcare Series for Veteran and Military Students

The TTUHSC Heroes to Healthcare series aims to assist in preparing our veteran and military students to enter their professional careers.

The series give students the opportunity to learn valuable information through participating in various career services activities. We can assist in locating career services.

Eligibility

• Veteran and military students graduating from TTUHSC in the current academic year
• Minimum 3.0 GPA

How to Apply

Applications will open each Fall semester for all TTUHSC students graduating in the current academic year. Submissions should be made to the Veterans Resource Center by November 11th each year, while funding is available. Each Heroes to Healthcare participant must keep track of their individual requirements and completion documentation.

The following are the necessary steps to apply:

1. Complete the Heroes to Healthcare Application, and documentation showing requirement completions. Choose 5 of the topics below to complete page two of the application.
   • Career assessments
   • Resume/cover letter writing/critiquing
   • Networking and dining etiquette
   • Interviewing
   • Professional dress
   • Job fairs
   • Career Webinars
2. One-page narrative outlining military, academic/work experiences, and career/life goals
3. DD-214, current military orders, or LES 
4. When all requirements are completed, the following items should be sent to the Veteran & Military Services, with subject line "Heroes to Healthcare".

Do you Need a Suit?

After completion of all components of the Heroes to Healthcare series, participant may be selected to receive a brand-new suit, up to a $500 value. The participant is required to schedule an appointment with a suit vendor to select and be fitted for their suit.
