The Garrison Institute on Aging, Project Frontier
Project FRONTIER (Facing Rural Obstacles to Healthcare Now Through Intervention, Education & Research) is a long-term study of adults in rural West Texas, tracking physical, mental, and cognitive health over time. Since 2006, the study has collected thousands of data points to help researchers understand aging, chronic disease, and cognitive changes in multi-ethnic rural communities.
Who can participate?
Any adult aged 40 or older living in Cochran, Bailey, Parmer, or Hockley counties is eligible.
What participants do:
The study includes a medical exam, blood draw, interview, and cognitive testing, taking about 3–4 hours. Participants receive reimbursement, a feedback letter, and a copy of their lab results, with the option to share results with their healthcare provider.

Project FRONTIER Data Request Center
The goal of the Project FRONTIER is to support research on dementias and effects of aging. Project FRONTIER research volunteers participate in a variety of different assessments. Our data is complex and request criteria varies.
To facilitate an investigator’s request, each of the documents below must be reviewed before submission of a request form. Failure to review these documents may result in an unnecessarily delayed request.

Submit a Request
Before submitting, check existing data requests to avoid duplication and potential conflicts. If a similar study exists, consider contacting the investigator, collaborating, or refining your question.
This ensures efficient use of resources and promotes meaningful research collaborations.
Post Data Usage Survey
After permitted access and use of Project FRONTIER Data, please fill out the Post Data Usage Survey. This will assist in Project FRONTIER's categorization and understanding of why and how our data supported the requesting investigator's study.
