Jenna Welch Women's Center
Welcome
Mission of the Jenna Welch Women's Center
The Jenna Welch Women's Center of the Laura W. Bush Institute for Women's Health provides clinical research, medical education and community partnership to deliver outstanding medical care for women and their families.
History of the Jenna Welch Women's Center (Center)
In 2007, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, Midland Memorial Hospital and Medical Center Hospital united to successfully create the Permian Basin presence of the Laura W. Bush Institute for Women's Health Institute. The Texas Tech University System Board of Regents approved the designation of the Center of the Institute in October 2008. In April 2010, Texas Tech Physicians of Midland opened its doors and now houses the Jenna Welch Women's Center, adjacent to Midland Memorial Hospital. In August 2010 Mrs. Laura W. Bush and her mother, Mrs. Jenna Hawkins Welch, attended the Jenna Welch Women's Center dedication. During this event the Center mission was formally announced.
Today, the Jenna Welch Women's Center delivers expert women's healthcare and actively partners with the Laura W. Bush Institute to improve the health and lives of women and families through research, education and community outreach.
Current Objectives and Initiatives
A woman's health is more than weight, blood pressure and cholesterol. It encompasses physical, emotional, sexual and social aspects. At the Center we understand the needs of women in achieving overall health.
The Jenna Welch Women's Center provides expert medical care services including:
- physical examinations
- gynecologic care
- global women's wellness assessment
- risk prevention for chronic debilitating conditions such as substance abuse, infectious disease, cancer, chronic pain, depression, diabetes and high blood pressure
Adolescence is a time in a young woman's life when behavioral and health interventions can provide immeasurable lifelong benefits.
The Center has tailored teen services including a "teen-friendly" examination room and resource area.

Many women lose pregnancies during the first 12 weeks. During this time of crisis, women often experience bleeding, pain, fear and feelings of extreme stress, yet many receive indifferent, outdated and fragmented medical care.
At the Jenna Welch Women's Center we are committed to:
- Expert, around-the-clock medical care by trained medical staff
- Quality, scientifically-based treatment standards
- Our goal is to prevent a repeat pregnancy loss and avoid the fear, hurt and pain that accompanies it.
Approximately 15 percent of all gynecology visits are made for symptoms of long-term pelvic pain. Many of these women go untreated or are treated inadequately.
The Jenna Welch Women's Center providers will coordinate:
- Multidisciplinary medical care for diseases such as endometriosis, vulvodynia, fibromyalgia, intestinal chronic pain conditions and urologic chronic painful conditions.
- Offer patients minimally invasive diagnostic and surgical procedures and the most current medical therapy available.

Thousands of women undergo a hysterectomy each year.
The Jenna Welch Women's Center performs minimally invasive hysterectomies. With only three small incisions, many times recovery time and length of hospital stay are markedly reduced.
The Center is currently utilizing da Vinci Surgical Systems to perform minimally invasive hysterectomies. For more information on this technology and equipment, please visit da Vinci Surgery.
