Fellowship Overview & Objectives
The Department of Psychiatry at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) is proud to offer a Postgraduate Fellowship in Psychiatry for Advanced Practice Providers (APPs). This 12-month program is open to both Physician Assistants (PA-C) and Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioners (PMHNPs) seeking advanced, structured training in academic psychiatry.
This fellowship is designed to provide rigorous supervised clinical experience, a strong didactic foundation, and exposure to multiple psychiatric subspecialties in a supportive academic environment.
- No call responsibilities
- Structured, supervised clinical training with experienced academic faculty
- Progressive autonomy throughout the year
- Formal didactic curriculum including:
- Departmental Grand Rounds, Journal Clubs
- Medical student didactics
- Psychiatry resident conferences and teaching sessions
- Direct mentorship and individualized career guidance
- Collaborative interdisciplinary care model
Core Clinical Rotations
Fellows rotate through multiple psychiatric settings to ensure broad exposure and competency:
- Outpatient Adult Psychiatry
- Child & Adolescent Psychiatry
- Geriatric Psychiatry
- Consult-Liaison Psychiatry (CL)
- Specialty clinics as available
Elective rotations may be tailored to individual interests and career goals.
Interventional & Advanced Treatment Exposure
Fellows gain exposure to and supervised experience in:
- Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT)
- Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS)
- Advanced psychopharmacology
- Management of complex mood, psychotic, trauma-related, and neurocognitive disorders
Upon successful completion, graduates will be well prepared to:
- Sit for the CAQ-PA (Certificate of Added Qualifications) in Psychiatry (for eligible PAs)
- Strengthen psychiatric board certification and advanced competency (for PMHNPs)
- Transition confidently into academic or high-complexity clinical practice settings
APPLICATION
Applications will only be accepted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) administered by AAMC beginning in July each year.
The National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) would like us to remind you that the application process in ERAS is separate from the NRMP matching process. In order to be ranked in the Match, you must register with the NRMP.

This fellowship provides a structured yet flexible academic training experience with strong faculty supervision, progressive clinical responsibility, and exposure to subspecialty psychiatry in a collegial academic setting.
- Graduate of an accredited PA or NP program
- For NPs: Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner certification required
- Eligible for Texas licensure
- Demonstrated commitment to psychiatry and team-based care
Applications and Interviews will be held via Thalamus or other supporting platforms.

Lubbock is located in the northwestern part of Texas. The population is over 300,000, with a catchment area of over 1.2 million.
