Arun Mathews, M.D. is the chief medical information officer at Medical Center Hospital,
a 400 bed regional referral center located in Odessa, Texas. He also serves as clinical
assistant professor and hospitalist fellowship training program director for the
Texas Tech Department of Family and Community Medicine. Mathews received his medical
degree from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 2001.He completed his residency
in internal medicine at Good Samaritan Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland followed by
a year of research in medical informatics at John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.
Dr. Mathews previously served as Chair of Medicine for Lea Regional Medical Center
in Hobbs, New Mexico and as a member of the Lea Regional Medical Center Board of Trustees.
During his tenure as CMIO, Medical Center Hospital has attained MU stage one certification
and is on track to certify for stage two, in addition to being named a HIMSS Level
6 facility. In June of 2013, Dr. Mathews was a recipient of the AMDIS award for excellence
in the field of applied clinical informatics, and has spoken in national forums on
the use of analytics to power both operational, strategic and clinical decision-making.
