Transfer Evaluation FAQ's
Transfer Credit FAQ
In order to receive transfer credit, you must first submit official copies of your final transcripts from all previously attended colleges and universities. The GPA from your transfer credit is not calculated into your TTUHSC GPA.
There are several ways of determining if the credit from other institutions will transfer for credit to TTUHSC. TTUHSC does not offer lower division core curriculum courses but does follow Texas Core Curriculum as set forth by the THECB. General education requirements completed at a private or out-of-state institution may not be equivalent to the required Texas Core Curriculum, and may not excuse a student from not completing the Texas Core Curriculum. The student is responsible for completing the core requirements at another institution prior to beginning the program of study at TTUHSC
If the institution is a Texas public institution, you can search for Texas Common
Courses that will be acceptable for transfer at Texas Tech University. The Texas
Common Course Numbering System (TCCNS) has been designed to aid students in the transfer
of general academic courses between Texas public colleges and universities throughout
the state. The system insures students that courses designated as common will be accepted
for transfer and the credit will be treated as if the courses had actually been taken
on the receiving institution's campus. Texas Tech courses identified as common will
have the Common Course Number listed in brackets at the end of each course description.
Click on the following link to learn more about the TCCNS: The Texas Common Course
Numbering System (https://www.tccns.org/).
You can search for equivalencies online for all institutions using the Transfer Equivalency
Search (Transfer Tables) and selecting the School of Nursing or School of Health Professions.

TTUHSC does not offer lower division core curriculum courses, therefore if you did not receive a TTU equivalency for a transfer course, and would like to petition for an equivalent TTU course, you will need to submit a syllabus from the course taken at the previous school to (TEO Email)
Once submitted the TTUHSC Registrar's office will forward the syllabus to the appropriate TTU academic department for review. The department will review the syllabus and determine if there is a TTU equivalency. Once the evaluation is complete the TTUHSC TEO office will contact you by email. If the requested course is approved and is assigned a TTU equivalent, the TTUHSC TEO will update DegreeWorks and the Unofficial Transcript to reflect the change.
Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center transfers all courses that have been completed in a student’s academic career. Credit granted will be reflected on the student’s official transcript with a specific course number or a general subject prefix from TTUHSC. Transfer work applied to a student’s degree program is noted as credit only on the TTUHSC transcript. Grades from prior institutions are not calculated into the overall GPA for TTUHSC.
Does Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center award credit for military educational experiences?
Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center will award credit hours for military educational experiences while in the armed forces based on the recommendations of the American Council on Education. The following documentation is required before applicable credit can be determined:

Courses that are being used to satisfy Texas Common Core Curriculum must be completed at an accredited college or university.
Courses that are being used to satisfy vocational requirements may come from a non-accredited school. These courses must be accepted by their respected boards. These courses cannot satisfy Texas Common Core requirements.
You must submit transcripts for every institution you have previously attended before being admitted to Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. All transferable credit hours are applied at TTUHSC to calculate your classification.
The only exception to this rule is "Fresh Start Admission" which allows student's the option of discounting all hours earned ten or more years prior to their first enrollment at TTUHSC.
Texas Tech University is considered a separate entity apart from Texas Tech University System. While many students may take classes on both campuses during the same semester, the student only has one enrollment status in either institution.
All credit earned while enrolled in the Texas Tech University will be posted as transfer work, therefore, an Official Transcript must be submitted like all other college and universities a student has attended.
