This annual event is a wonderful opportunity for all of the schools on the Amarillo campus to come together
to talk about research to build collaborations and friendships. The Symposium will highlight the research
accomplishments of students and faculty in their respective field of study with poster and oral presentations in morning and afternoon sessions, and a Keynote speaker during lunch.

Posters need to be submitted through InfoReady by March 27, 2026.
The committee will submit and pay for poster printing.
You will be notified via email prior to the conference regarding the time of your selected poster presentation.
You will pick up your posters during registration on April 10th. Then you will be directed to your poster presentation location to display your poster.

While preparing your poster, please consult the rubric for items to be scored: Rubric.Submit your file via InfoReady. Once you have registered for the event you will receive an email confirmation with the link to Info Ready to submit your abstract and poster file.

There will be two poster judging sessions. One in the morning and one in the afternoon (see schedule for times).
Everyone will be notified in advance as to which session they will be judged.
The posters will be judged by teams of two faculty members.
Each person will have 5 minutes to present their research with 2 minutes of Q&A for a total of 7 minutes.
Winners will be announced at the awards program at the end of the presentation day.

The committee of judges will evaluate all abstracts that want to be selected for podium presentations. Once the judges have selected the people who will be presenting they will be notified by email. Selected people will need to organize a powerpoint for the presentation.

Each presenter will be allowed 8 minutes for presentation and 2 minutes for Q&A for a total of 10 minutes.

What happens after I submit my Abstract in InfoReady?
- For those who wish to present in oral format, faculty reviewers will score abstracts using this rubric: https://ttuhsc.box.com/s/w2lf01k21uw6vndder1ttvv34dpl4zcu
- Reviewers will determine if your abstract is allowed to be presented orally or as a poster
- If you are submitting a poster, you will automatically be accepted and given steps to upload your poster file in InfoReady; a PowerPoint file is preferred
- Everyone will be notified via InfoReady by 3/23 with next steps for uploading your PowerPoint presentation or poster file, which is due no later than Friday 3/27
If I selected to present orally, how will I know if I was chosen?
- After reviews are completed, everyone will be notified by 3/23 and your presentation slide upload is due in InfoReady by 3/27
- If your abstract is not selected after review, you are welcome to present a poster; you will need to upload this by 3/27 to be printed (PowerPoint file for is preferred)
If my abstract was accepted to present a poster, when is this due?
- Upload to InfoReady by 3/27 so the Symposium Committee can get them printed (PowerPoint format is preferred)

Where will I pick up my printed poster? (The symposium committee will pay for and facilitate the printing of your poster)
- Posters can be picked up at the check-in table; you will be given tacks to hang your poster, make sure to do this prior to your scheduled time slot and take it down after all assigned judges have reviewed (2 judges per presentation)
How will my presentation be judged at the event?
- Each person presenting a poster will have 5 minutes to present their research with 2 minutes at the end for Q&A for a total of 7 minutes per poster presentation
- You are expected to have your poster up and be ready to present during this whole hour
- Each oral presenter will have 8 minutes for presentation and 2 minutes for Q&A for a total of 10 minutes
- Faculty judges will be assigned poster and oral presentations for review during a given time slot

When will I be notified of my presentation time?
- There will be two poster judging sessions (one in the morning and one in the afternoon) and two oral presentation sessions
- The symposium committee will send emails with times and instructions for all presentations at least two weeks before the event; times will be assigned based your availability selected at submission
What if I am not available at this time or can no longer attend the event?
- An alternate/co-author may present, but the main author will receive recognition/award (if applicable)

Keynote Speaker
Frederick Grinnell, Ph.D.
Robert McLemore Professor of Medical Sciences
UT Southwestern Medical Center
“Ambiguity in the Practice of Science and the Discovery of New Research Questions.”
Fred Grinnell is the Robert McLemore Professor of Medical Science at UT Southwestern Medical Center. After completing a Ph.D. in biochemistry at Tufts New England Medical Center in 1970, he moved to Dallas for postdoctoral work in the department of biochemistry and joined the newly formed UTSW cell biology department in 1972. In 1998, Fred was founding director of the UT Southwestern Ethics in Science and Medicine Program and continues to organize the North Texas Bioethics Network. His commitment to medical education was recognized by a University of Texas Regents’ Outstanding Teaching Award in 2012 and by a State of Texas Minnie Stevens Piper Professor Award in 2017.
Grinnell has written two books about the nature of scientific inquiry – The Scientific Attitude (2nd Edition, Guilford Press, 1992) and Everyday Practice of Science: Where Intuition and Passion Meet Objectivity and Logic (Oxford University Press, 2009). Everyday Practice was shortlisted for the 2010 UK Royal Society Science Book Prize. Fred is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in the Section on History and Philosophy of Science.
