As part of the Graduate Medical Education Sciences (GMES) M.S. application, prospective students must calculate and submit a detailed GPA breakdown as a required supplemental item. Below you will find the download link for the official calculation template, step-by-step completion guidelines, and answers to frequently asked questions.

Note: Completed spreadsheets must be saved as Last Name, First Name GMES GPA Calculator and uploaded directly to your BioRaider portal.

The Excel spreadsheet contains 3 separate tabs. All 3 tabs must be completed for your application to be considered complete:

• Tab 1: Single Science Weighted GPA (Overall minus first 30 hours)
  Record all undergraduate coursework except for your first 30 credit hours (roughly your first two semesters or freshman year). Include dual credit courses in those initial 30 hours if applicable.
• Tab 2: Science GPA
  Record all undergraduate science and mathematics courses. This includes Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physics, Anatomy, Zoology, and Math coursework (prerequisite courses matching TTUHSC School of Medicine requirements).
• Tab 3: Last 60 Hours GPA
  Starting with your most recent completed coursework, work backward through your last 4 full semesters (typically 55 to 65 credit hours, encompassing upper-level 3rd and 4th year curriculum).

Important Rules:

• Do NOT include graduate coursework. Only undergraduate level courses should be entered.
• Include ALL attempts for retaken or grade-replaced courses. If you repeated a class, list both attempts.
• Match the grade nomenclature in the Excel sheet EXACTLY as shown in the Grade Key (A, B, C, etc.), ensuring no accidental spaces before or after letters/numbers.

Validation is the formal verification process conducted by the GSBS Admissions Office. We compare every entry in your uploaded calculator against your official transcripts.

Warning: All official transcripts must be received before validation can be completed. Entering incorrect or false information into the calculator is considered falsifying academic records and will result in immediate disqualification of your application.

Per guidelines established by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, all Texas graduate programs compute GPAs according to the following standard rules:

1. Only official transcripts from accredited institutions of higher education are accepted for grade point calculation.
2. All academic work and assigned grades must remain on the official transcript; no grades may be expunged.
3. A standard 4.0 scale is utilized: A = 4.0, B = 3.0, C = 2.0, D = 1.0, F = 0.0.
4. Failing symbols (F, WF, NC, FL) count as attempted hours, but earn 0.0 grade points.
5. Credit by Exam (CR), Quit (Q), Withdrew (W/WP), Incomplete (I/X), and Pass/Fail (P) grades are excluded from GPA calculations.
6. Foreign coursework is excluded from automated calculations and evaluated separately.

Q: How do I handle AP credits versus Dual Credit when calculating the "Overall minus 30 hours"?
Dual credit courses count toward your initial 30 credit hours. Advanced Placement (AP) credits do not count toward the 30 hours unless a letter grade appears on an official college transcript.

Q: What if I am currently in my final semester and don't have final grades yet?
Use the last 60 credit hours of completed coursework for the "Last 60 Hours" tab. Do not attempt to guess or enter in-progress grades.

Q: Should I include Engineering or Psychology classes on the Science GPA tab?
No. Do not include Engineering or Psychology. Only include basic sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physics, Anatomy, Zoology) and Mathematics.

Q: Why is my spreadsheet displaying "GPV as FALSE" or "Grade Points as 0"?
This occurs if there is a leading or trailing space in your Grade or Units cells, or if the grade letter does not match the Grade Key exactly. Ensure cells contain no extra spaces.
