Supplemental Application

Review required supplemental items, fee waivers, transcripts, recommendation letters, and test score rules for TTUHSC GSBS applications.

Supplemental items may be submitted at any time after starting your application. Log into your BioRaider.com account to track the receipt and status of your items. All required supplemental items must be received before an application is considered complete and ready for committee review.

1. Application Fee Waiver Eligibility

The standard application fee is $50 (non-refundable), payable by credit or debit card directly inside the BioRaider portal. To pay by check or money order, please contact the GSBS Office.


You may be eligible for a $50 application fee waiver if you meet any of the following criteria. Eligible applicants should email graduate.school@ttuhsc.edu for waiver instructions before submitting payment:

  • Early Ph.D. Applicants: Fall applicants to Biomedical Sciences Ph.D. or Pharmaceutical Sciences Ph.D. programs who submit complete applications by December 1.
  • Conference & Event Attendees: Prospective students who registered with a GSBS representative at ABRCMS, SACNAS, HACU, NCUR, TTUHSC Open House, or university graduate fairs.
  • Summer Interns: Alumni of GSBS summer research programs (ABRI, BRIA, SABR).
  • Scholars & Students: McNair Scholars (with institutional documentation) or current TTUHSC GSBS students.
  • Military Service: U.S. Active Duty military service members and U.S. military veterans.
  • TTU System Staff: Full-time staff members at Texas Tech University or Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (excluding faculty).
  • Approved Deferrals: Applicants who accepted admission but were approved by the program committee to defer to a later term (valid once).

2. College Transcripts & Evaluation Requirements

Applicants are expected to list all post-secondary institutions attended (including schools where transfer credits were earned toward a degree). Omitting an institution is considered a falsification of academic records.


Domestic U.S. Transcripts

  • Application Review: Upload unofficial electronic transcripts directly to your BioRaider material checklist.
  • Upon Admission: If offered admission, official transcripts from all domestic institutions attended must be submitted prior to enrollment.
  • Official Submission: Electronic official transcripts should be sent to graduate.school@ttuhsc.edu

International Transcripts

Do NOT upload international transcripts or mark sheets. Uploaded international documents will be removed. All international coursework must be evaluated through an approved foreign credential evaluation service.

3. Letters of Reference

Applicants must submit a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 4 letters of recommendation.

  • Submission Method: Enter the name and email address of each recommender inside your BioRaider portal. Recommenders will receive an automated email from graduate.school@ttuhsc.edu containing a secure link to complete the evaluation online. Letters submitted outside the portal are strongly discouraged.
  • Recommender Selection: Choose research mentors or faculty who can address your academic suitability, research aptitude, initiative, perseverance, and analytical ability for graduate study.
  • GMES Applicants: Please review the GMES program page for specific recommendation letter instructions.

4. GRE & MCAT Test Score Policies

ETS Institution Code: 6851

  • General Programs: The GRE General Test is optional for applicants across all GSBS programs, with the exception of GMES.
  • GMES M.S. Applicants: GRE scores are required, but the MCAT may be submitted in lieu of the GRE. To submit MCAT scores, email graduate.school@ttuhsc.edu with your AAMC ID and 16-character AAMC Verification Code (e.g., A1B2-C3D4-E5F6-G7H8).

5. Proof of English Proficiency

International applicants who do not meet an exemption must submit official results from one of the following testing services (valid for 2 years):

  • TOEFL iBT: Minimum score of 79 (exams taken before Jan 21, 2026) or 4 (exams taken after Jan 21, 2026). TOEFL Essentials minimum: 8.5. (ETS Code: 6851)
  • IELTS Academic: Minimum overall band score of 6.5. (General Training is not accepted)
  • Duolingo English Test: Minimum score of 100.
  • PTE Academic: Minimum score of 60.
  • Cambridge English: CPE grade C or higher; CAE grade B or higher.

Automatic Exemptions: Applicants are exempt from test scores if they completed 4 consecutive long semesters of credit-bearing study at an accredited U.S. college, attended 2 consecutive years of U.S. high school, or hold citizenship from an exempt country. 6. GMES GPA Calculator & Oath of Residency

  • GMES GPA Calculator: Applicants to the Graduate Medical Education Sciences M.S. program must complete and upload the official GPA spreadsheet. Download the template on our GMES GPA Calculator Page.
  • Oath of Residency: Complete the residency questionnaire inside the portal as accurately as possible. If you previously attended or worked at TTU/TTUHSC, enter your 8-digit student ID (R-Number); otherwise, leave the field blank.
