Listing of GSBS Scholarship Opportunities

The Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences offers a wide variety of scholarships annually to support student success. Below is a list of available programs. If you have questions regarding eligibility, please contact the GSBS office.

  • Eligibility: Automatic consideration for all completed Ph.D. applications. Available to new students matriculating in Summer or Fall.

    Deadline: Early Decision deadline for Biomedical Sciences Ph.D.

    Award Amount: Varies

    Note: Awarded by the GSBS Dean upon recommendation from the Ph.D. Selection Committee. Notifications included in admission offers.

  • Currently, all Dean's Scholars awards are filled. Faculty and students will be notified when new positions become available.

    Eligibility: Full-time Ph.D. and M.D./Ph.D. students in good academic standing.

    Award Amount: $5,000 increase to base stipend.

  • Competitive scholarships are awarded by program concentrations based on available funds. Admitted students are automatically considered—no separate application needed.

    Criteria: Holistic review of GPA, GRE scores, letters of recommendation, and essays.

    Maintenance Requirements: Students must maintain full-time status and a 3.0+ semester GPA to retain eligibility.

    Deadline/Amount: Varies by program.

    International Education Fee Scholarship

    Eligibility: Full-time M.S. or Ph.D. students in good standing (3.0 GPA minimum).

    Requirements: Letter of intent, advisor support letter, and detailed travel budget.

  • Honoring the memory of Wyatt McMahon, this scholarship recruits top undergraduate or graduate students from Texas Tech University to the GSBS Biomedical Sciences Ph.D. program.

    Eligibility: U.S. Citizen/Permanent Resident; degree from Texas Tech University.

    Deadline: April 15th

    Award Amount: $2,500

  • Competitive award for students mentored by primary CPMB faculty conducting research in membrane transport, cell/synthetic membranes, or biophysics.

    Eligibility: Ph.D./M.D.-Ph.D. students, 3.5 minimum GPA.

    Deadline: May 15th

    Award Amount: $1,500 (one-time)

  • Competitive award for students mentored by primary CPMB faculty in Membrane Biophysics, Neuroscience, or Structural Biology.

    Eligibility: Ph.D./M.D.-Ph.D. students, 3.5 minimum GPA.

    Deadline: May 15th

    Award Amount: $1,500 (one-time)

  • Field of Study: Infectious Diseases, Immunology, or Cancer.

    Eligibility: Full-time Ph.D. student, 3.0+ GPA, Faculty nomination/support letter required.

    Award Amount: Up to $500

  • Eligibility: Translational Neuroscience and Pharmacology (TNP) Ph.D. students.

    Award Amount: $10,000 (renewable for 1 year).

    Nomination: Mentors or TNP faculty may nominate based on research performance, leadership, and financial need.

  • Eligibility: Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. students in the TNP concentration. Must be in good standing (3.5+ GPA).

    Award Amount: $10,000 annually (renewable for 1 additional year).

    Focus: Translational research regarding clinical disorders.

  • The Office of Research provides a one-time $5,000 incentive for GSBS students who successfully secure full fellowship funding from an external federal (NIH/NSF) or non-federal (foundation/patient advocacy) source.

    Note: Mentor-provided funding does not qualify. Reach out to the Office of Research & Innovation to determine eligibility.
