Mental Health in West Texas

Welcome to the Lubbock Department of Psychiatry at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. United by a collective purpose, the TTUHSC Department of Psychiatry is dedicated to enriching the lives of others by educating students to become collaborative health care professionals, providing excellent patient care and advancing knowledge through innovative research.

Our department works to foster resilience, understanding and overall wellness throughout West Texas and beyond. Our teams combine world-class education, comprehensive clinical services and critical community partnerships to improve mental health outcomes and strengthen the communities we serve. Whether you’re a patient, student, clinician or community member, you’ll find a place here — where compassion meets innovation — and where every voice contributes to the future of health.

Academics

Within our academic programs, we prepare the next generation of psychiatrists, mental health professionals and leaders in behavioral science. Our medical students, residents and fellows engage in dynamic training experiences across diverse clinical settings. They benefit from collaboration among our campus, graduate schools and law school partners. Guided by a values-based culture — including beyond service, one team, integrity, teamwork and vision — our learners are empowered to lead and innovate in psychiatry and mental health.

Community Engagement

Engaging with our community is central to our mission. Together, we seek to advance mental health education, prevention and outreach. Through key partnerships, we work to improve overall wellness, reduce stigma, expand access to care and promote mental health equity across the diverse populations we serve in West Texas and beyond.

The Texas Tech Mental Health Initiative (TTMHI) was created when the Texas Tech University System culminated a vision for a collaborative approach to mental health. TTMHI believes that optimal health outcomes require a whole-person view of health inclusive of promotion, prevention, treatment and recovery.
