Dr. Santos graduated from University of Santo Tomas with a degree of Bachelor of Science Major in Biology - Accelerated in 1992. He finished his Bachelor's degree in three years Cum Laude and on the Dean's List. He obtained his Doctor's Degree in Medicine and Surgery from University of Santo Tomas in 1996. He finished General Internship at Santo Tomas University Hospital in 1997 and completed a General Surgery Residency as the Administrative Chief Resident in 2002 at Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center, the flagship hospital of Philippines' Department of Health. He completed a Fellowship in Trauma, Surgical Critical Care and Burn Surgery at University of Louisville from 2002-2004 as well as Masters Degree in Public Health. In order to practice in the US, he repeated his General Surgery Residency at University of Louisville finishing in 2008. He joined the University of Toronto and St. Michael's Hospital as a Clinical Fellow in Trauma and Acute Care Surgery. He practiced as the only surgeon in West Labrador in Newfoundland, Canada (Labrador City, Wabush, NL and Fermont, Quebec). He joined the Faculty of Penn State University in Hershey as an Associate Director of Emergency General Surgery in 2012-2015. In 2015, he joined Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Amarillo, TX and subsequently transferred to the main campus in Lubbock in 2017 where he served Chief of the Division of Acute Care Surgery and Co-Director of SICU at Covenant Medical Center until 2023 and Director of Telemedicine for School of Medicine. He is the Principal Investigator of TexLa Telehealth Resource Center (HRSA Telehealth Resource Grant). He is an active member of the American College of Surgeons, Eastern Association for Surgery of Trauma (EAST), American Association for the Surgery of Trauma (AAST) and Society of Critical Care Medicine where he is currently serving as Chair -Elect of SCCM Surgery Section. He is a Fellow of American College of Surgeon (FACS), Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC) and American College of Critical Care Medicine (ACCM). He is part of the Telehealth Advisory for the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). He was inducted to the American College of Surgeons' Academy of Master Surgeon Educators. Currently, a Professor and Interim Chair of the Department of Surgery.
