Elizabeth “Beth” Daugherity is a Ph.D. candidate at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, and is presently working in the laboratory of Dr. Devin Lowe with the Department of Immunotherapeutics and Biotechnology in Abilene. A former cosmetic chemist, Beth’s life was interrupted when she was diagnosed with LAM in 2015 after numerous lung collapses, surgeries, and procedures. Upon learning of the research just miles away from her home, Beth applied for the Ph.D. program to research mechanisms involved in premetastatic niche formation and potential therapeutic targets to halt disease progression. She is currently developing novel immunotherapeutics and improved delivery platforms, leveraging the commonality between breast cancer and LAM to potentially treat both. Her particular interests lie in identifying the hormonal mechanisms in LAM and other cancers. Beth is also the proud mother of two, wife of a particle physicist, patient advocate, and caring friend.
