Brian K Irons

HSC Adjunct Instructor, Professor

Dr. Irons, PharmD, FCCP, BCACP has been with the TTUHSC School of Pharmacy since 1999 and is a Professor with the Department of Pharmacy Practice specializing in Ambulatory Care on the Lubbock Campus. He is certified by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties in Ambulatory Care and previously in Pharmacotherapy (2000-2014) and was also board certified in advanced diabetes management from 2007-2017. Dr. Irons has authored over 40 peer-reviewed journal publications and 20 book chapters. He has served as editor for twelve books.

Dr. Irons was Head of the Ambulatory Care Division within the Department of Pharmacy Practice from 2005 to 2019. He is a past recipient of four TTUHSC President Awards, has been named Lubbock Preceptor of the Year six times, and has received four teaching team of the year awards with the School of Pharmacy. In 2011 Dr. Irons was named Fellow by the American College of Clinical Pharmacy for sustained excellence in the discipline of clinical pharmacy. He is a past Chair of two American College of Clinical Pharmacy Practice and Research Networks (Ambulatory Care PRN and Endocrine and Metabolism PRN).

He has various teaching responsibilities in didactic lectures, case-based learning, and our experiential program. He is a past Team Leader of the Endocrinology Pharmacotherapy, Case Studies, Integrated Capstone, and Ambulatory Care Elective courses and for the Ambulatory Care Clinical Skills Clerkship.

He received his BS and PharmD from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. He completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency at United Hospital in St. Paul, MN and an Ambulatory / Managed Care Residency with the Texas Tech School of Pharmacy.
