Carlos A Alvarez

Associate Professor, Director - Clinical & Translational Sci

Dr. Alvarez is an Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice in the Division of Clinical/Translational Research and Center Director for the Center of Excellence in Real-world Evidence. He is a pharmacoepidemiologist, health services researcher, and clinical pharmacy specialist. He received his Doctor of Pharmacy from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Pharmacy in 2004 and Master of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Texas at Austin in 2006. Dr. Alvarez also completed his Pharmacotherapy residency in 2006 at the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio. He is a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (2007). In 2009 he was selected as a National Institutes of Health Clinical Research Scholar (KL2) and earned a Master of Science of Clinical Science with Distinction from the University of Texas Southwestern in 2013. Dr. Alvarez’s research interests are in the safety and effectiveness of medications in patients with chronic diseases using large administrative and clinical databases. His research is funded by the NIH, VA, private foundations, and industry.
