Daniel Mark Hardy

Professor

Daniel M. Hardy PhD is a tenured Professor in the Department of Cell Biology & Biochemistry at Texas Tech School of Medicine, with a secondary appointment as faculty in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery & Rehabilitation. He also has a Graduate Faculty academic appointment in the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (GSBS), with Primary membership in the Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology concentration in the Biomedical Sciences graduate program.

Prof. Hardy obtained his PhD in Medical Sciences/Biochemistry from the University of New Mexico School of Medicine, then conducted research as an NIH postdoctoral fellow at the University of California Davis, and as a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Associate at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and at UT Southwestern Medical Center. After promotion to Instructor at UTSW with support from a USDA/APHIS research grant, he moved to TTUHSC School of Medicine to pursue his academic career.

Prof. Hardy maintains an active and funded research lab focused on protein biochemistry and molecular biology, with disciplinary interests ranging from reproductive biology, to autoimmunity, musculoskeletal biology, molecular evolution, and diseases of protein structure.

Prof. Hardy founded the GSBS Graduate Program in Biotechnology (GBTC) and served as Program Director and Graduate Advisor for its first 11 years. He also founded the Summer Accelerated Biomedical Research (SABR) undergraduate research program and served as Director for its first six years. Both programs continue to thrive.

In the classroom, Prof. Hardy has taught extensively in the Graduate School and Medical School curricula. In the GSBS he has served as Director of eight different courses, including as founding Director of four, and as Lecturer in 10 additional graduate courses and three medical courses. He has received multiple awards for his teaching.

Prof. Hardy's service and administrative efforts include President of the School of Medicine Teaching Academy for four years, Chair of the Graduate Faculty for four years, President of the TTUHSC Faculty Senate for one year, as well as Chair of eight HSC or school level committees, notably as founding chair of the HSC Conflict of Interest in Research Committee for 14 years.
