Dr. Crenshaw was the 2018-2019 Outstanding Student Government Association DNP Faculty; was inducted into Phi Kappa Phi (2017) for achieving scholarly distinction; received the Lamaze International Research Award (2015); the TTUHSC School of Nursing Young Investigator Faculty Development Award (2014); and, was identified as Who’s Who in Health Sciences and Academia (2013); and was identified among the Top 25 Online Nursing Professors in Texas (2012). She was inducted as a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing (2012).
Jeannette T. Crenshaw’s most outstanding contribution to nursing and health care is her global work to promote evidence-based maternity and breastfeeding practices. She was elected Lamaze International board member (2001-2008) and president, and United States Breastfeeding Committee (USBC) board member and secretary (2004-2007). Her appointment as first chair of the Lamaze Institute for Healthy Birth (2001-2004) led to publication of 6 evidence-based “Care Practices that Support Normal Birth”. She also served as Lamaze’s delegate to technical advisory group for the International MotherBaby Friendly Childbirth Initiative (Geneva, 2006).
Her policy efforts include written and oral testimony, meetings with local, state, and federal legislators and interactions with the media to advocate for policy changes that improve health. She was an invited guest at the Surgeon General’s (2011) Call to Action on Breastfeeding briefing (2011).
She published articles and led three original research studies on preoperative fasting practices, which received wide-spread media attention. She has advised health professionals worldwide on implementing evidence-based preoperative fasting practices. In 2010 she led an international team in a unique video-ethnographic study that improved maternal/newborn skin-to-skin care practices after cesarean surgery by 25%.
Dr. Crenshaw is a professor at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) School of Nursing (SON) in Lubbock, TX, USA and teaches in the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program. She is a nurse, educator, and researcher. Dr. Crenshaw is a past president of Lamaze International, past chair of the United States Breastfeeding Committee (www.USBreastfeeding.org), and past chair of the American Academy of Nursing Expert Panel on Breastfeeding. She has consulted in China and the Middle East on implementing evidence-based maternity and breastfeeding practices. During the past 8 years, Dr. Crenshaw visited China 16 times, consulting with hospital and community-based organizations in 20 cities on implementing evidence-based leadership, maternity, and breastfeeding practices. She led international leadership immersions (2015, 2017, 2018, 2019) and co-led 6 national leadership immersions (2013-2021) for DNP students. Her professional work focuses on promoting evidence-based leadership, maternity, and preoperative fasting practices. She has presented at international, national, and regional venues; published in peer reviewed journals and textbooks; and, researched healthy birth and breastfeeding practices, immediate skin-to-skin care after birth; and, preoperative fasting practices. She earned a DNP in executive leadership in nursing (Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center), an MSN in Administration and Management (Baylor University), and a BSN in Nursing (University of Texas at Austin).

She loves to dance and go for walks with her husband and spend lots of time with her three adult children and 3 grandchildren. Her goals are to listen, to “be in the moment”, to inspire, and to be inspired.
