Dr. Justin G Vaughan is an Assistant Professor of Surgery with a focus on Acute Care/Trauma/Surgical Critical Care. He is board certified in Surgery Critical Care and General Surgery. He is focused on resident education, research, and quality improvement. In addition to his clinical duties, he is a proud father of three children (one, three, and five years old) and the husband of a PGY-5 General Surgery resident.
His medical school training was obtained at the University of Arkansas for the Medical Sciences, and his General Surgery residency was completed at Mercer University/Medical Center for Central Georgia. Following his completion of residency, he completed fellowship training at Duke University Hospital in Surgical Critical Care. He has just completed his fifth year of academic practice in the fields of Acute Care, Surgery Critical Care, and Trauma Surgery.
During his time with TTUHSC within the Department of Surgery, he has routinely been a strong RVU contributor, leading the Acute Care Surgery Service. He has received several awards including: UMC Growth Pillar Award, Department of Surgery Faculty Mentor Award. He also serves in many leadership capacities including: Medical Director of the Operating Room for UMC, Medical Director for Emergency General Surgery, Member of the UMC Performance Improvement Harm Review Committee, Director of Robotic Acute Care Surgery, and is the Resident Wellness Coordinator.
