Katie M Bennett

Dr. Katie Bennett has over 20 years of experience in genetics, molecular biology, and clinical testing. She has served as the Laboratory Director for two COLA-accredited clinical toxicology laboratories and a CAP-accredited molecular diagnostics laboratory. Her extensive research background includes serving as a principal investigator for internal and external grants, publishing numerous peer-reviewed articles, and acting as a peer reviewer for NIH grant study sections. She has also mentored numerous graduate students and interns in both bench and advisory capacities. Her teaching career, which began in 2004, is distinguished by more than 10 Outstanding Faculty Teaching Awards and the prestigious Texas Tech University System Chancellor’s Distinguished Teaching Award. Nationally recognized for her service to the profession, Dr. Bennett was named an ASCP "40 Under Forty" honoree and received the Outstanding Achievement Award from the Association for Genetic Technologists. In 2025, she was selected as University Distinguished Faculty. These combined expertise in clinical leadership, research, and pedagogy qualify her to teach advanced content in molecular pathology, laboratory sciences, clinical accreditation, and statistics.
