Laura Opton serves as Professor and Executive Associate Dean at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) in Lubbock, Texas. Dr. Opton demonstrates a strong commitment to nursing education and a passion for leadership, global health and community advocacy. She has been an educator since 1996, teaching didactic and clinical courses via face-to-face and online modalities at the prelicensure, RN to BSN, and graduate levels. She works closely with faculty to develop and implement curricula, ensuring appropriate resources are available to faculty, students, clinical coaches, and staff. She has participated in and led international programs with students to Costa Rica, Italy, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, and Peru to support health initiatives within these regions. Her passion for education was recognized by presentation of the TTUHSC University Distinguished Faculty designation, as well as several professional and teaching awards, including the President's Team Teaching Award and the President’s Excellence in Interprofessional Teamwork Award. She also fulfills a variety of leadership roles in committees within the university, professional organizations, and the community.
