Dr. Liliana Andrade has dedicated her career to advancing family and geriatric medicine through education, clinical care, and mentorship. Since joining Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in the Permian Basin in July 2013, she has served as an Associate Professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine, where her commitment to teaching and patient care continues to make a lasting impact.
Dr. Andrade earned her medical degree from the Universidad Central de Venezuela in 1998. She pursued her family medicine residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston (UTMB), completing her training in 2007, followed by a Geriatric Fellowship in 2008 at UTMB. Prior to her time at Texas Tech, Dr. Andrade spent five years as faculty in the Internal Medicine Departments at both UTMB and the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston (UTHSC-Houston). During this time, she was honored with the Hispanic Center of Excellence Fellow Grant and received the 2010 Geriatric Teaching Award at UTMB. Additionally, she completed a two-year Scholar in Education program at UTMB finishing in 2013.
Dr. Andrade's dedication to teaching has been recognized repeatedly. In both 2014 and 2023, she was awarded the Residents' Teaching Award at Texas Tech's Family Medicine Department in the Permian Basin.
An active leader in her field, Dr. Andrade is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) and a Fellow of both the American Geriatrics Society (AGS) and the Sealy Center on Aging at UTMB. She also serves as a Board Member for the Permian Basin Hispanic Medical Society. From 2013 to 2021, she served as Program Director for the Geriatric Fellowship Program at TTUHSC-Permian Basin, where she played a pivotal role in training future geriatricians.
Dr. Andrade provides compassionate and skilled primary care to homebound and community-dwelling older adults at the Geriatric Clinic at Texas the Family Medicine Department. She also coordinates the Geriatric Rotation for the Internal Medicine Residency Training for the William Beaumont Army Medical Center in El Paso-TX and TTUHSC-Permian Basin's Internal Medicine Department.
Dr. Andrade is a passionate educator, developing and delivering impactful workshops such as "Geriatric 5M's for Primary Care" in collaboration with The Brooklyn Hospital Center, affiliated with the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital. Her contributions to medical education include her involvement in the Grant CONFIANZA: Hispanic-Oriented Medicine Enrichment at TTUHSC-PB, as well as her role in developing and implementing a one-year faculty development curriculum for the Hispanic Center of Excellence at TTUHSC-Permian Basin.
Recognized as the "Best Geriatrician of the Permian Basin" by Odessa American readers for three consecutive years, Dr. Andrade also received the 99th percentile rating for patient satisfaction in 2022. Demonstrating her commitment to innovation in medical education, she created a series of YouTube videos designed to enhance geriatric training for medical students and residents, improving knowledge and care practices for older adults.
Dr. Andrade's special interests include falls prevention, frailty, functional status, dementia care, and advancing medical education for students, residents, and fellows alike. Her dedication to improving geriatric care and shaping future healthcare professionals reflects her unwavering commitment to excellence in medicine.
