Dr. Malaiyalam Mariappan earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Biochemistry from the University of Madras, India before gaining research experience at the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore. He then pursued a Ph.D. in Biochemistry at the University of Göttingen, Germany, followed by postdoctoral training at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland. Dr. Mariappan joined the faculty of Yale School of Medicine in 2012, where he established a research program and made important contributions to the fields of protein synthesis and quality control. In 2024, he joined the Department of Cell Biology and Biochemistry at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC).
