Melinda Mitchell Jones has been on faculty with the Texas Tech University Health Science Center School of Nursing since 2004 beginning as an assistant professor teaching in the RN to BSN Program. She was appointed Associate Dean/Department Chair for Non-Traditional Undergraduate Programs in 2012. In this role she had administrative oversight for the RN to BSN and Accelerated BSN Programs representing approximately 600 students and 27 full-time faculty. A 2015 grant from the Texas Workforce Commission provided funding for the development of the Veteran to BSN Program which started January 2016. Further funding in excess of $1 million from HRSA was received also in 2015 for the program. In 2019 she was identified as a Distinguished Professor by the president of the university. August of 2019 Melinda stepped down from her administrative duties to be full-time teaching faculty. Previously she was on faculty at Baylor University for nine years. She holds a Juris Doctorate from Texas Tech University as well a Master’s of Science in Nursing with a focus on nursing administration from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Prior to entering academia Mrs. Jones served as a chief nursing officer in both for-profit and not-for-profit health care systems. She currently teaches courses in law and ethics relevant to nursing practice and healthcare. Dr. Jones is admitted to the State Bar of Texas and the Bar of the Supreme Court of the United States, She held a gubernatorial appointment as the nursing representative on the Texas Nursing Facilities Administrators Advisory Committee between 2020 and 2025. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International-Iota Mu Chapter, and American Nurses Association. She is married to Glenn Jones, PharmD, MBA and has four grandchildren living throughout Texas.
