Dr. Michaela Jansen is the inaugural Associate Dean for Medical Education and Accreditation and a Professor at TTUHSC School of Medicine (SOM). She advances institution-wide initiatives in medical education and academic leadership.
Major Strategic Initiatives
Led institutional preparation for the 2025 LCME survey, achieving continued full 8-year accreditation.
Led a comprehensive curricular renewal, yielding the highest AAMC GQ student satisfaction in school history, near the 90th percentile.
Established the Office for Accreditation and a sustainable culture of continuous quality improvement (CQI) across all four years of the curriculum.
Transforming Medical Education
As Assistant Dean for the Pre-Clerkship Curriculum and later Associate Dean for Curriculum, she directed the first full redesign of the MD curriculum, launched with the Class of 2025, engaging over 100 faculty and leaders and achieving full adoption in 18 months.
Strategic Leadership
She has held elected and appointed roles, including two terms as Chair of the SOM Faculty Council Executive Committee, and is a 2023–24 Fellow in Drexel University’s Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM) program. She is recognized for adaptive, clear, and visionary leadership.
National Engagement and Accreditation
She oversees accreditation, assessment, and program evaluation across the MD program, ensuring continuous readiness following the 2025 LCME survey. Nationally, she serves as co-lead of the AAMC NEXT Step 1 Curriculum Work Group, advancing next-generation curricular models.
Scientific Excellence
After postdoctoral training at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, she joined TTUHSC. Her research in drug discovery and neurotransmitter receptor mechanisms sits at the intersection of neuroscience and biophysics and has received continuous NIH/NINDS funding since 2007.
Recognitions
Honors include the TTUHSC President’s Excellence in Teaching Award, the Dean’s Curricular Development Award, the Douglas M. Stocco Scholarship/Research Award, and the NIH K99/R00 Pathway to Independence Awards.
