Dr. Tarrah Mitchell obtained her Ph.D. in Clinical Child Psychology from the University of Kansas in 2018 and completed her doctoral internship and postdoctoral fellowship in Clinical Child/Pediatric Psychology at the University of Florida Health Sciences Center. In August 2020, Dr. Mitchell joined the faculty at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry. She holds dual appointments as Adjunct Faculty in the Departments of Psychological Sciences and Educational Psychology, Leadership, & Counseling at Texas Tech University. Dr. Mitchell has hospital appointments at the University Medical Center and Covenant Health System in Lubbock, Texas.
Dr. Mitchell is the Clinical Director of the Relational Health Center. Further, she developed and serves as the Training Director for the Child and Adolescent Psychology Doctoral Internship, Postdoctoral Fellowship, and Graduate Assistantship Programs at TTUHSC. Dr. Mitchell provides direct patient care and supervises students, interns, fellows, and licensed mental health clinicians in the provision of evidence-based mental health services for youth in West Texas and beyond. She has clinical certifications in multiple intervention approaches (e.g., Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Triple P-Positive Parenting Program, Unified Protocol), and she is actively involved in clinical teaching. Of note, Dr. Mitchell developed the clinical curriculum for the day treatment program at the Relational Health Center. She is also a member of the Executive Committee for the Texas Child Mental Health Care Consortium, where she helps improve systems of care for children and adolescents across the State of Texas.
Dr. Mitchell has published 23 journal articles and two book chapters to date focused on the links between youth’s health behaviors and their physical, psychological, and social functioning. Further, she maintains close collaborations with Drs. Cooley (Statistical Consultant) and Wakefield (Advisor), as well as Ms. Lelakowska (Co-Investigator), culminating in multiple manuscripts and national/international conference presentations. She has received several research awards and fellowships and recently won an “Unsung Hero” award at TTUHSC and a Faculty Award at Covenant Health for her work in developing training programs and advancing clinical service standards in a highly underserved region.
