RICHARD D. LEFF, PHARM.D., FCCP: Dr. Leff was born and raised in a rural town in northern Illinois. He received a Bachelor of Science in Education from Northern Illinois University, Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from Creighton University, and Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Minnesota in 1975. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship in pediatric pharmacology at the University of Iowa and has served on the faculties of the University of Texas at Austin, University of Iowa, and University of Kansas. In 1997, he assumed the position of Vice President, Clinical Services and Research, Child Health Corporation of America and in 2000, he assumed the position of Director, Pharmaceutical Product Development at the Midwest Research Institute. He also founded Pediatric Research Associates, LLC, a consulting group formed to address issues related to the Pediatric Research Equity Act. Currently, he is Professor and Sr. Associate Dean for Clinical/Translational Research at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Pharmacy and Founding Director of the Clinical Pharmacology & Experimental Therapeutics Center, a designated Center for Research Excellence at the School of Pharmacy. In 2012, he was awarded the James A. ‘Buddy’ Davidson Endowed Professorship in Pediatric Pharmacology. He has over 150 publications and has been invited to deliver over 250 presentations. He is internationally recognized for his experience with drug and medical device development in infants and children. Current research funding includes the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) and the NIH Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA). As Sr. Associate Dean, Dr. Leff is responsible for strengthening the clinical research infrastructure among the regional campuses and promoting institutional collaborations to facilitate faculty scholarship.
