The conference/didactic curriculum runs an 18-month, repeating schedule, allowing all residents to engage in topics twice over the course of residency.  Once a quarter there is planned joint-conferences with Medicine, Pediatrics, Orthopaedics, and Surgery Residencies.  There is also a dedicated simulation curriculum and resident-directed conference for each PGY level.

University Medical Center

University Medical Center (UMC) is a 500-bed hospital. It is a public, non-
profit facility that serves as the primary teaching hospital for the Texas Tech
University Health Sciences Center. UMC also includes a children's hospital
with Level IV NICU, a family-centered birth center, a regional burn center,
and the region's only Level 1 Trauma Center.

The mission of the TTUHSC Emergency Medicine Residency Program is to enhance the quality of emergency care throughout West Texas by the provision of board-certified, residency-trained emergency physicians to the region.  These emergency physicians will achieve a high level of clinical competence through training in a tertiary care teaching hospital and Level 1 trauma center as well as other GME clinical learning environments where they receive the ability to provide personalized, compassionate patient care for a wide variety of emergent and complex conditions.

A successful residency program at its core places the residents first.  We will encourage residents to be the fabric of our learning environment and will rely upon constant feedback from them to create ongoing, positive changes.  We believe that residents will help shape our program and operation, while remaining active learners throughout the educational experience.
