Program Overview

Welcome to the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Lubbock Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program. We are pleased to share our program with you and invite you to learn more about the people, experiences, and opportunities that define Orthopaedic surgery training at TTUHSC.

Our established residency program has a long history of educating Orthopaedic surgeons and preparing residents for successful careers in clinical practice, academic medicine, and beyond. Located in Lubbock, Texas, TTUHSC serves as a regional referral center for a large and diverse population across West Texas and eastern New Mexico. Our residents benefit from a broad clinical experience, including training at a Level II Trauma Center where they encounter a wide range of acute Orthopaedic injuries and complex surgical pathology.

We are committed to developing Orthopaedic surgeons who are confident, technically excellent, thoughtful, and compassionate. Our residents work alongside dedicated faculty in a collaborative learning environment that emphasizes operative experience, clinical judgment, evidence-based care, and meaningful relationships with patients and colleagues.

At TTUHSC, we believe that excellent surgeons are shaped not only by what they learn in the operating room, but also by the communities they serve. Our program is dedicated to providing rigorous training while fostering the professional growth, character, and leadership skills that define exceptional Orthopaedic surgeons.

Admissions Requirements

Applications are accepted from September 1 - October 31 and only through the Electronic Residency Application Service ERAS. Only completed applications will be reviewed. The program is participating in the ERAS supplemental application program and will give preference to applicants who signal their interest in the program. (We no longer require a statement of interest)

The program participates in Universal Offer Date and applicants will have 7 days to accept interview offers.

Interviews

Virtual interviews will be held in January using Zoom. 

TTUHSC accepts FMGs from accredited medical schools possessing a J-1 visa only, after passing their ECFMG. If you have graduated from a foreign medical school, please contact the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates ECFMG. The following are application requirements to be included in your file for review.

Completed ERAS Application Including:

• Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE)
• Personal Statement
• Three Letters of Recommendation (ESLOR preferred)
• Medical School Transcripts
• USMLE and/or COMLEX Exam History Report
• Wallet sized photograph (with ERAS)
• Program Director's letter/certification (if previous Orthopaedic residency training in US)

Prior to start of residency: ACLS Certification

• GME Acknowledgement
