Program Overview
Vision
The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Residency Program is dedicated to empowering and developing physiatrists with a robust, full-scope toolkit of skills, knowledge, and passion to excel in both academic and community settings. We are committed to providing comprehensive care to rural and underserved communities, equipping our physicians to make a meaningful impact locally and nationally.
Curriculum & Coursework

The goal of formal didactics is to provide in-depth education on rehabilitation medicine in clinically and board-relevant content.
Topics include:
- General PM&R
- Musculoskeletal rehabilitation
- Pediatric rehabilitation
- Electrodiagnostic medicine
- Spinal cord injury
- Neurorehabilitation
- Sports medicine
- Pain medicine
- Orthotics/Prosthetics
- Wound care
Didactics are scheduled every Thursday 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and are overseen by faculty members.

Applying for Residency
Applications will be accepted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
Requirements:
- Three references – one of which specializes in PM&R
- Dean’s Letter
- Medical School Transcripts
- Official USMLE or COMLEX scores
- Curriculum Vitae
- Personal Statement
- Completion of an elective in PM&R
We begin reviewing files in October and applicants we are most interested in will be invited for a virtual interview. At this time, we plan to conduct virtual interviews in December.

- We provide 15 working days for PGY1 and 20 working days for PGY2 and above.
- Leave
- Sick leave for up to 12 working days per year
- Family and parental leaves of absence (see also US Department of Labor Employment Standards Administrative - FMLA)
- Educational leave
- Military leave not to exceed 15 work days per year.
- Retirement & Savings
- Residents and fellows are not eligible for TTU System's 401K plan but can participate in the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) the Tax-Deferred Account Program (TDA). More information will be provided upon starting your program.
