Amarillo Internal Medicine Residents Shine at National Conference
Residents in the School of Medicine’s Department of Internal Medicine in Amarillo presented 11 research posters last month at the Society of General Internal Medicine (SGIM) Annual Meeting in Denver. Topics addressed at the conference included health services research, medical education, advocacy and exemplary clinical care.
Assistant Professor Kaylee Shepherd, M.D., said the conference received more than 800 abstract submissions and less than two-thirds were accepted for posters.
“We had 11 abstracts accepted for posters with topics that show that we see as much interesting and unique pathology when compared to other medical centers,” Shepherd said. “TTUHSC Amarillo should be proud. We are the only Texas Tech campus who attended this national conference and we had more representation when compared to some of the largest internal medicine programs in the country. For example, UT Southwestern only had four resident presentations.”
Shepherd said internal medicine resident Ashangari Chandralekha, M.D., was also selected to give an oral presentation of her poster.
“Fewer abstracts were accepted for an oral presentation, so a special shout out to Ashangari, who gave an incredible oral presentation of her case that was selected as one of the top eight abstracts submitted out of the 800+ abstract submissions,” Sheppard added.
