Casino Night Raises Money for St. Jude
More than 140 students, faculty and alumni from the School of Pharmacy came out to the Amarillo Botanical Gardens March 9 for Casino Night, an annual event hosted by pharmacy student organization Phi Delta Chi (PDC) to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Amy Tran, a second-year pharmacy student who served as co-chair for the event, said St. Jude is PDC’s national philanthropic charity, and PDC brothers from across the nation seek to raise awareness and money to aid in the hospital’s childhood cancer treatment efforts.
“We are a professional pharmacy fraternity, and as future health care professionals, we are happy to support St. Jude's cause that aims to improve patients’ lives,” Tran said. “Casino Night is an event we host each year to raise funds and awareness for St. Jude.”
In addition to hosting their annual Casino Night, which raised approximately $1,800 this year, Tran said TTUHSC’s PDC chapter also reaches out for donations by participating in a letter writing campaign on behalf of St. Jude.
“This year we've raised nearly $6,300 from letter writing alone,” Tran said. “Last semester, our philanthropy chairs also hosted our first 5K Run/Walk benefiting St. Jude and raised $2,100. Overall, throughout the 2017-2018 school year, we've raised over $10,000 for St. Jude.”
