The Food and Drug Administration is now revamping confusing warnings on prescription drugs to protect both moms and their infants.

The FDA said women take an average of three to five prescription drugs during their pregnancy, but many doctors prescribing the drugs are not properly informed on the potential risks. "If you look at the package insert or the prescribing information that most physicians get, you'll find that they'll say very little or nothing about pregnancy," said Dr. Thomas Hale, a pediatrics professor at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and creator of the MommyMeds app. "So much of the information has been minimal for pregnancy and downright stupid for breastfeeding."
