Garage Sales and Blood Pressure Checks
Spring weather means garage sale season for many. Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) medical students are bringing together garage sales with an opportunity to get your blood pressure checked. The TTUHSC School of Medicine’s Alpha Omega Alpha Zeta Chapter and Gold Humanism Honor Society will host the Charity Garage Sale and Health Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday (April 12) at 2201 Broadway (west parking lot of First Baptist Church).
Marie Pfarr, fourth-year medical student and president of the Alpha Omega Alpha Zeta chapter, said the organization wanted an event that would benefit the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lubbock, but also give those attending an opportunity to get their health checked.
The health fair will include services like blood pressure checks and preventative health information for men and women. Information about dental hygiene, wearing helmets, seatbelts will be available for children.
"The fourth-year medical students are moving, and we thought what a great opportunity to sell our items for a good cause and get out there in the community,” Pfarr said. “Community outreach is extremely important to the Texas Tech medical students, and this is one way to give back to this West Texas city for supporting us.”
Pfarr said if you have items you would like to donate or for more information, email marie.pfarr@ttuhsc.edu.
