The Garrison Institute on Aging is once again encouraging the community to begin living a healthy life by hosting the annual GET FiT challenge. The eight-week exercise competition begins Sept. 26 and runs through Nov. 20.

GET FiT Lubbock is designed to promote a healthy lifestyle throughout West Texas in order to reap the benefits of improved health and fitness. Throughout the competition, teams of four will earn points by losing weight, exercising regularly and attending the various events offered, including nutrition demos and specific fitness classes.

A research component will also be offered for those who qualify. GET FiT research participants will have their entry fee waived in exchange for partaking in pre- and post-health screenings. The cost for non-research participants is $25, however, those who participated in GET FiT in 2010 will receive a discount.
