The Texas American College of Surgeons (ACS) selected a research poster presented by fourth-year medical student Derek Yang as the top entry in the Surgical Oncology session at the North & South Texas ACS Joint Meeting Feb. 23-25 in Austin.

Yang’s award-winning poster was titled, “Value of Focus Group in High Risk Population for Melanoma in Assessing Knowledge, Beliefs, and Barriers to Skin Protection.” Several staff and faculty from the Department of Surgery were co-authors for the presentation, including Michelle Marsh, senior analyst; Dawn Cox, outreach coordinator; Nail Aydin, M.D., assistant professor, Division of Surgical Oncology; and Subhasis Misra, M.D., associate professor, Division of Surgical Oncology.

Misra, who served as Yang’s faculty mentor for the research, is also serving as president-elect for the North Texas ACS chapter.
