Midland Physicians Leaders in EHR Implementation

Joseph G. Rhode II, M.D., and Carolyn Rhode, M.D., of Midland Family Physicians, have been recognized as Meaningful Use Vanguards by the West Texas Health Information Technology Regional Extension Center (WTxHITREC) for their leadership in the national electronic health record (EHR) transition.

The award is an initiative of the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology designed to honor, thank and bring together clinicians and hospitals that have successfully implemented EHRs.

The Rhode’s designation is awarded in tandem with the distinction as leaders in health information technology. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services have also provided these health care providers an EHR incentive payment under the Medicare and Medicaid EHR Incentive Programs.

Medicare and Medicaid incentive payments are available to eligible professionals and hospitals when they adopt, implement, upgrade or demonstrate meaningful use of a certified EHR. The payments mean physicians and other eligible professionals can qualify for as much as $44,000 through Medicare or $63,750 through Medicaid. Hospitals can qualify for payments of $2 million or more.
