National Walk/Run @ Work Day

WHO: The Garrison Institute on Aging, Workplace Overall Wellness (WOW!), the Road Runners Club of America and the West Texas Running Club will host National Walk/Run @ Work Day for Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) faculty, staff and students.

WHEN: 12:15 p.m. Friday (Sept. 20)

WHERE: Texas Tech Physicians Medical Pavilion courtyard, 3601 Fourth St.

EVENT: The event was created by WOW! to encourage everyone to incorporate 30 minutes of walking or running into their daily routine to improve their overall health. According to the American Heart Association, walking and moderate physical activity for at least 30 minutes a day can help a person:


  • Reduce the risk of coronary heart disease

  • Improve blood pressure and blood sugar levels

  • Improve blood lipid profile

  • Maintain body weight and lower the risk of obesity

  • Enhance mental well-being

  • Reduce the risk of osteoporosis

  • Reduce the risk of breast and colon cancer

  • Reduce the risk of Type 2 diabetes
