Pelvic examinations are generally performed to assess the size of the uterus and to detect abnormalities around the ovaries, said Alita Loveless, faculty physician in the department of obstetrics and gynecology at the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center and medical director of the academic clinic pavilion.
